Who we are
Hello, here you meet Birgit and Bodo Haenicke from Essen,  Germany. Since 2003 Birgit is breeding Lakeland Terriers under the kennel affix "Assindias".
My first Lakie was bought 25 years ago, and I immediately fell in love with this breed. You do not see Lakeland Terriers in Germany very often, but I always was excited to look at them walking along with their owners. Especially I love their cute looks and cheerful ways.
My second Lakie Krissy turned out to be a typical lively terrier and changed out life completely! First we went to puppy class twice a week, later on Bodo did weekly obedience exercises with her. As she developed to a show-quality dog, we attended ringcraft classes. She is alway happy to work with us - and doggie treats or her toys are the key to her motivation. Unfortunately she later did not proved the promises and it is not possible to breed with her. So we bought another Lakeland - a red one named Tessa - which has been mother to our first three litters. Tessa lives now as a pet with a new family and I kept one daughter, Assindias Cinnamon Girl, also a red one.
In Germany the Klub für Terrier is the main breed organisation for terrier owners. Several local groups offer training possibilities with your dog, so we chose OG Dorsten for membership. There are several Lakie owners and some breeder with whom we can share our passion. On the other hand we are always happy to meet Lakies everywhere and you hear often that this breed wins the hearts by first glance! But widely the breed is unkown - this is our reason to run this homepage and to have a forum to meet other Lakie people.
The website and my kennel is called after an middle-aged name for Essen, the town where we live (Essen = Assindia).
